BSM organized by Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) at HCMC on 21 May 2019

 

ISPEPC led a business delegation of their 30 Indian member companies to HCMC for holding a BSM on 21 May 2019, in the second leg of their tour a BSM has been organized at Ha Noi on 23 May 2019. The Indian companies showcased their products - silk fabrics, ready-made garments, silk scarves, stoles, shawls, and silk-blended products etc. The Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) was held at Majestic Saigon Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City. 

2. ISEPC Chairman Dr. Bimal Mawandia led the delegation. The Post invited local textile associations, fashion designers, boutiques, media for the event and Mr. Pham Xuan Hong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Garment Textile Embroidery-Knitting (AGTEK) came for the inauguration along with representatives fromIndian Business Chamber in Vietnam (INCHAM); Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Ho Chi Minh City Branch; Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) and other Vietnamese companies in textile sector.

3. ISEPC delegates were visiting Vietnam for the first time to gauge the market’s interest in their productsAs informed by ISEPC, the visit was supported under MAI. AGTEK, Chairman and other representatives were appreciative of the quality, finesse and pricing of the goods; expressing positive sentiments on the scope for Indian silk products or for collaboration in import of silk fabric.

4.Most of Vietnamese Silk production (about 70-80%) is based in Lam Dong Province in Vietnam; the production is of Mulberry silk. It is insufficient to meet the local demand and China is main source for imports. Apart from sales in domestic market, main Vietnamese silk export markets are US, Japan and Korea. However it formed a minor segment in the total garment and textile exports of Vietnam which exceeded US$36 billion in 2018.According to DOC, GOI estimates, Indian exports of Silk to Vietnam were about US$3.39 million during FY 2017-18 and US$3.02 million during April 2018 – Feb 2019 .
